Fine Tuning Needed

I continue to be in fitness mode and am following the workout schedule outlined here. I’m enjoying the mental break that comes from not having an endurance event looming. But I’ve decided I’m enjoying that mental break a bit too much. I’ve not been challenging myself and I feel lazy…sluggish, even. This is what I’m going to do about it:

Beginning tomorrow, my weight training days will also include at least 45 minutes of cardio. My pure cardio sessions (on non-weight training days) are going to last longer. My goal is to burn a minimum of 500 calories a day, six days a week. This is very do-able. I did it in 2010 when I trained for sprint triathlons and I still had a life.

Why begin this tomorrow?

Later in the week the calendar flips to December, the last month of the year. Many Americans will spend the month eating those “once a year” party foods and favorite dishes. Then they’ll complain about feeling gross. After all, December is the month for eating in excess and skipping workouts; January is the season for beginning diets, right?

I don’t begin diets in January or any other time of the year. Ever since I got honest about having an eating disorder I view each day as an opportunity to live free of sugar addiction and binging.

I’m giving my workout plan a tune-up because doing so will mean 2011 ends with me feeling more fit and fantastic than I do now. I might even lose a pound or two in the process. More challenging workouts will also help me deal with holiday stress, impossible schedules, and endless to-do lists…things that used to send me to the candy dish.

I want to keep myself accountable. I’m going to post my daily calorie burn on Twitter. Those of you who won’t be able to sleep without knowing the stats can find me at http://twitter.com/#!/pamojamo.

What about you? What will you do to make sure 2011 ends with you feeling better than you feel right now?
