I’ve finished my first official week of triathlon training. I only did one training “brick’ (stacking two components to make a back-to-back workout), but I swam once, biked twice and ran three times. I did one weight lifting session as well. While this week wasn’t as intense as the coming weeks will be, I experienced enough to know that my late summer through fall schedule will do one of two things: whip me into uber shape or kill me.
In the weeks ahead I’ll be putting together training bricks as well as adding a weekly long run to increase my mileage for half marathons. I can already see that it will be a challenge to fit in all this training and still have a life. For example, Wednesday through Friday of this week I have work commitments that require me to be in the office by 7:30 (I usually arrive between 8:00 and 8:15). So workouts on those days won’t include bricks.
I can’t believe I’ve scheduled two triathlons and two half marathons in an 11-week period. But as the saying goes, “no guts, no glory.”
I hope to be glorious.
